SNCF, the French state-owned railway company, has a vital public service mandate that includes connecting remote areas. Central to this mission are the Intercités, also known as 'Territorial Balance Trains' (TET).
TET operate rapid main-line services between major French cities not served by high-speed rail. They also facilitate the opening up of regions through cross-country routes and night trains. These are medium and long distance trains fulfilling missions of national interest.
